Best Friends For Never {chapter 9 - Chioma}

Days passed and everything seemed normal. Lanre and I went on dates, Remi and I went shopping and had sleepovers. The only thing that seemed out of place was kingsley. He seemed off since the party and it was impossible to talk to him when Halima was constantly clinging to him. When I did get him alone he was cold and closed up, nothing like my best friend. About 2 weeks into school I got fed up of Kingsley's act. Early on a Saturday morning I stood outside Kingsley's window banging on it. Kingsley pushed back his curtains and threw open his window.

"WHAT?" He hissed. His hair was disheveled from sleep and he was only wearing a pair of boxers.

I looked away from him and cleared my throat awkwardly. "Uh Kingsley some pants maybe?"

He looked down and blushed. "Meet me outside." He said and quickly closed his curtains.

I walked back to the front of his house and waited for him. Kingsley came out, this time dressed, and walked over to me. "What do you want Chioma?"

"I want to know what’s going on." Kingsley opened his mouth but I cut him off. "And don't tell me nothing is going on because I have known you for forever and can tell when something is up. You have been acting so weird lately and I am worried about you."

Kingsley let out a sigh and sat down next to me. "It’s my mom." He began looking at the ground. "She... she is sick... my mom has cancer." kingsley let out a small sad laugh. "It's safe to say I haven't been handling it well"

A lump formed in my throat. "When did you find out?" I asked.

"The day after the party." Kingsley turned to meet my eye. He looked so sad, so scared. "I don't know what to do." Tears filled his eyes and he quickly wiped them away.

I threw my arms around him and he wrapped his around me and started to cry. I had never seen him like this, it scared me. If cool, calm Kingsley was breaking down then things must be really bad. "It's gonna be OK." I whispered and pulled away to meet his eye. "I'm gonna be here for you no matter what."

Kingsley took a deep breath and dried his eyes. "Thank you Chioma, you really are the best. I have to go get ready for practice." I nodded and walked him to the door. "Can we just keep this between us?" He asked nervously.

"My lips are sealed." I replied with a smile. "Bye." I gave him a hug then started to walk away.

"Chioma!" He called and I turned to face him. He looked like he really wanted to tell me something.

"Yeah?"

"Never mind." With that he turned and went inside, slamming the door as he went.

Remi and I went to shoprite and got frozen yogurt every Saturday, it was a tradition. Remi always got vanilla with peanut butter chips and I got vanilla with gummy bears, sprinkles and strawberries. It was safe to say I had a major sweet tooth.

"You know what today is?" I asked her.

"Hmmmm presidents day?" She joked. "Sorry I have no idea."

"A year and a month ago Lanre and I started going out."

"Oh."

"Since I was in jand during our year anniversary we decided we would just celebrate our year and a month."

"Are you sure he remembers? I mean guys forget that sort of stuff."

"Not Lanre. He said he has something big planned." Remi looked sort of put out. "Stop being jealous of my awesome boyfriend and go talk to that dude, he has been checking you out"

"Excuse me?" I gestured to the guy who had been checking her out for the last 5 minutes.

"Go talk to him!" I squealed.

"No thanks."

"Remi he is uber hot! Why not?"

"Because! If you think he is so hot then why don't you go talk to him?"

"Cause I have Lanre, gosh Remi what’s your problem?"

"You!" She yelled. "All you ever do it talk about yourself or you and Lanre and I am sick of it!"

I just sort of stared at her, jaw dropped. I was shocked. Lucky for me I got over the shock fast. "Excuse me? So I talk about my boyfriend! That is 100% normal! I'm sorry you don't have one, have never had one in fact, but don't take it out on me!" Remi glared at me then leaned over the table and dumped her yogurt on my head. "Remi!" I screamed jumping up. She seemed almost stunned by what she had just done, but she didn't say sorry, no she just ran…

Lanre was late, an hour late. I was done waiting. I turned on my computer and went to Skype. Of course he was on.

"Hey Chioma what’s up?" He asked with a smile when the call connected.

"Oh nothing just really craving pepperoni pizza." Lanre gave me an odd look then realized what I was talking about.

"Oh my God our date."

"Not just a date, our 13 month anniversary, the one we were gonna celebrate since we missed our 12 month."

"Chioma Just let me get dressed and I will pick you up and -"

"How did you forget?" I asked feeling close to tears.  You reminded me everyday that you had something planned and now you don't even remember it? What changed?"

"Chioma I'm sorry, I just spaced. Please let me make it up to you."

"Thanks, but no thanks."

"Chioma -" I hung up before he could finish. I covered my mouth to suppress a small sob.

'Pull it together Chioma.' I told myself. 'So your best friend dumped yogurt on your head and your boyfriend forgot about you. It can always be worse, besides you still have Kingsley.'

I pulled out my phone and began to dial his number but stopped. My problems where pathetic compared to his, if I called him I would seem so dumb. I sat down on my bed feeling completely and utterly alone.

Best Friends For Never {Chapter 8 - Remi}

Chioma goes over to Lanre's house every night and stays till 10 at around 10:30 I called Lanre.

"What the hell!!!!!"

" Remi?" Chioma answered

"Chioma umm uuh. What. Why are you still at Lanre's and why are you answering his phone"

"He is in the shower"

"oh"

"Why did you call?"

"oh I was just going to abuse him for telling you about the party" I laughed awkwardly

"oh yeah that was pretty dumb of him” she laughed "hey Remi"

"what's up"

"if something was going on you would tell me right "

"of course your my best friend"

" okay cool , Lanre is just coming out of the shower"

"Chioma!" I screamed laughing

"don't worry he is getting dressed in the bathroom I'm not that kind of girl"

"sure" I laughed. This is the first time I feel like a true friend again laughing and talking about boys .

"Lanre is back I got to go but here he is I’m going home so I will see you later"

"you too babe"

"Bye" she gave Lanre the phone and I heard his breathing in my ear it made shivers go down my spine. But I have to remember I am going to be extremely mad at him and yelll at him and tell him this is over. But then he answered.

"Hey she is gone"

"Lanre this can't happen anymore we are going to end up hurting Chioma"

"I know I’m sorry"

"You don't know how I felt when you kissed her today right after kissing me"

"I'm sorry"

" And you know what I just thought, that if I was your girlfriend, I wouldn't want you kissing another girl at all "

"I'm sorry!"

"I hate this Lanre we can't do this anymore!"

"I know but I don't want to hurt her"

"No Lanre you don't want to break up with her" I felt tears in my eyes

"Remi please"

"goodbye Lanre"

About ten minutes later after I got, my nightie I heard a knock on my window. I walked over to the window it was dark with just the shine of the stars and moon out. I looked down and I saw Lanre standing on the wet grass with a sweatshirt and dark jeans.

"Remi please let me talk to you"

"Or how about you go fuck yourself and leave me alone I’m not doing this to Chioma " I whispered down to him.

"please I know you hate me right now but please let me say something "

"Fine you have 2 minutes"

"May I come up"

"You’re wasting your time"

"Okay well when I first met you I thought you were just going to be that friend that when Chioma and I were to break up you would just glare at me whenever I walked by. But when I kissed you it was like a million fireworks went off in my heart.... I love you Remi."

“it’s hard to believe you” I said to him. Before I knew it he was climbing up to my window.

"Lanre .. I “before I could finish he kissed me .

"Fireworks every time"

Best Friends For Never {Chapter 7 - Chioma}

I slipped into a seat next to Remi and she looked up at me in surprise.

"You’re in this class?"

"Yeah, awesome right!" I squealed and she gave me a thumbs up. "Think you can hang out tonight?" I asked.

"I can't, I'm going to the library."

"Oh... Who am I supposed to hang out with!? Lanre has assignments too and kingsley is like MIA. He was a total jerk at lunch. Any idea why?" I asked

"No." She said quickly. We didn't talk for the rest of class and I felt an awkward vibe between us. I tapped my nails on the desk impatiently. Finally the bell rang and we got up quickly.

Lanre was waiting outside the class. "Hey!" He called waving us over.

"Hi." I said taking his hand and heading down the hall. "Hey do you know what’s going on with Kingsley?" I asked.

"Actually I have no idea." He shot Remi a look and she looked away quickly.

I pulled to a stop in the hall. "OK something is going on between the two of you and I want to know." I waited for someone to respond. "Well?"

"Chioma," Lanre began, his face solemn.

"You caught us!" Remi interrupted with a laugh. "We have been planning a surprise party for you. I told you she would find out!" She said with a nervous laugh and slapped Lanre playfully upside the head.

"Sorry!" Lanre gave an uneasy laugh.

"Awww," I smiled and hugged him. "You don't need to do anything for me!"

"Of course I do." He said with a smile leaning down to kiss me.

"Chioma!" Remi interrupted. "We are gonna get stuck in traffic, let’s go now ooo!" I blushed heavily and said my goodbye to Lanre as we headed towards the school gate.

I linked arms with Remi and smiled. "I have the best friend in the world."

Best Friends For Never {chapter 6 - Remi}

While Chioma went to talk to kingsley I took the time to talk to Lanre.....

"Look Lanre, Chioma is my best friend and I'm not throwing away our amazing friendship for some guy I'm sorry" I said fast and quiet.

"Is that a challenge?" Lanre whispered leaning his forward to whisper better.

"This isn't a game if you like me at least break up with her so you won’t hurt her to badly .. and just so you know I'm never going to fall for you."I hissed.

"Oh really I vividly remember you blushing when you gave me a hug when you got home." he whispered to me.

"One my face is naturally red, Two if you hurt her I will personally rip off your head and three give me one reason why I should like you."

On my way to my next class Lanre caught up to me.

"Hey"

"What do you want?"

"Look Remi I didn't plan to feel this way. A month ago I was completely crazy for Chioma! When we kissed it just kinda felt right."

"To bad I can't remember how it felt" I said trying to walk in front of him.

"Oh really well it was pretty magical" he said sarcastically he cut in front of me and of course there were no people around. "Want me to refresh your memory?"

He leaned in and kissed me. To be completely honest I was always so jealous of Chioma, she was always so pretty and had all the cute and nice guys and ever since I met Lanre I really liked him. I mean Chioma always had really cute boyfriends.

But something about Lanre was different whenever he talked or made really stupid jokes I wouldn't be able to stop smiling. He was completely right though being here with him kissing him just felt right. No matter how wrong it was, it just felt ... RIGHT!!!!!

On the outside I couldn't let go of his kiss his hands cradling my face our lips soft on each other. But on the inside I was freaking out. I couldn't tell Kingsley and definitely not Chioma. After all these years of Chioma being such a great friend this is how I return the favor! I am a horrible friend. What am I going to do?

Bovi organizes first show

Bovi's self titled show with the rider "Man On Fire" is a one-man stand-up comedy show that will afford him the opportunity to entertain his audience for an hour non-stop.

Bovi- Man On Fire will also feature several leading musical acts to spice up the evening. More details on the show coming soon......
